{"id":391,"date":"2012-05-20T10:04:56","date_gmt":"2012-05-20T17:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blt.homenet.org\/wordpress\/?p=391"},"modified":"2012-05-28T09:44:37","modified_gmt":"2012-05-28T16:44:37","slug":"installing-a-cyanogen-7-on-my-evo-shift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bt.beerprojects.com\/wordpress\/?p=391","title":{"rendered":"Installing a Cyanogen 7 on my Evo Shift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"CyanogenMod Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyanogenmod.com\/wp-content\/themes\/cyanogenmod\/images\/logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"372\" height=\"80\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Below are the steps that I took to updating my Evo Shift from 2.3.3 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyanogenmod.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">cyanogen<\/a> 7.2 RC2.\u00a0 So far RC2 seems really stable.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t tested the bluetooth yet, but so far everything else seems to be working just fine (no crashes and no reboots).\u00a0 It is running much better than the stock phone with root.<\/p>\n<p>5\/27\/2012 Update:\u00a0 Well I&#8217;ve learned a few things since the first post.\u00a0 First, bluetooth works just fine.\u00a0 Second, I didn&#8217;t format my SD card right to allow a partition to be used as internal memory.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve updated the steps below to capture this.\u00a0 Finally, here are a few performance test after a reboot results <a title=\"Linpack\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.greenecomputing.linpack&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Linpack<\/a> Single Thread: 50.87, Multi Thread: 37.398, <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.aurorasoftworks.quadrant.ui.standard&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hdXJvcmFzb2Z0d29ya3MucXVhZHJhbnQudWkuc3RhbmRhcmQiXQ..\" target=\"_blank\">Quadrant Standard<\/a>: 2182<\/p>\n<h2>Backing up the Phone<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Evo Shift\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyanogenmod.com\/images\/devices\/small\/htc-evo-shift-4g.png\" alt=\"Evo Shift\" width=\"64\" height=\"125\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Install <a title=\"ROM Manager\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEucm9tbWFuYWdlciJd\" target=\"_blank\">ROM Manager<\/a>, <a title=\"Titanium Backup Root\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rZXJhbWlkYXMuVGl0YW5pdW1CYWNrdXAiXQ..\" target=\"_blank\">Titanium Backup Root<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LlNNU0JhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ..\" target=\"_blank\">SMS Backup &amp; Restore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.metago.astro&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tZXRhZ28uYXN0cm8iXQ..\" target=\"_blank\">Astro<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nb29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC5kaXNrdXNhZ2UiXQ..\" target=\"_blank\">Disk Usage<\/a> to the phone (not sd card),<\/li>\n<li>Optional: ROM Manager Touch Mod if a power user<\/li>\n<li>Backup SMS text with SMS Backup\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure you backup to SD card<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Using Disk Usage, see if there are any large caches worth deleting.\n<ol>\n<li>I noticed google maps and Pulse had a lot of space.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do a backup using ROM Manager Backup<\/li>\n<li>Do a backup using Titanium Backup<\/li>\n<li>Optional:\u00a0 To be safe just copy the whole SD card to a folder on your computer.\u00a0 If you do this then you can skip steps 8-11.<\/li>\n<li>Copy to a computer the non-app files.\u00a0 This includes all your pictures (DCIM folder), any ringtones and notifications, downloaded files from browsers\n<ol>\n<li>If you do not need to re-partition your SD Card this step can likely be skipped, but I think it is a good idea just in case<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Copy to your computer the ROM Manager Backup file.\n<ol>\n<li>Mine was in the clockworkmod folder<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Copy to your computer the Titanium Backup backup files.\n<ol>\n<li>Mine was in the TitaniumBackup folder<\/li>\n<li>optionally:\u00a0 You can copy your backups to Dropbox or google Drive from the App<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Copy to your computer the SMS Backups\n<ol>\n<li>Mine was the SMSBackupRestore folder (the .xml file)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Flashing the Phone<\/h2>\n<p>I followed several wiki forums and suggestions to create my sequence of steps, but this link (<a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.cyanogenmod.com\/wiki\/HTC_Evo_Shift_4G:_Full_Update_Guide\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/wiki.cyanogenmod.com\/wiki\/HTC_Evo_Shift_4G:_Full_Update_Guide<\/a>)\u00a0 by far was the most helpful.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Skipped downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3 since I never did the update (<a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=1558532\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=1558532<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Reboot into recovery<\/li>\n<li>Select One: (A) Partition SD Card to use it as internal memory (I think this is the best option) or (B) SD Card not as internal<\/li>\n<ol>\n<li>Partition SD Card to use it as internal memory<\/li>\n<ol>\n<li>Partition SD Card with SD Ext = 4096MB and\u00a0 SWAP = 256MB<\/li>\n<li>Shutdown Phone and take out SD Card<\/li>\n<li>Using <a href=\"http:\/\/download.cnet.com\/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition\/3000-2094_4-10962200.html\" target=\"_blank\">Minitool Partition Wizard<\/a>, delete the EXT partition and apply the change.\u00a0 Then to the same partition section create an ext3 partition. Note:\u00a0 I&#8217;ve read several other forums that have had mixed results.\u00a0 I tried a FAT32, ext2, and an ext 4 before I found the ext3 to be recognized correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<li>Partition SD Card with SD Ext = 0 MB and\u00a0 SWAP = 256MB<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<li>Restart phone<\/li>\n<li>Download ROM, kernel, and Google apps and place files in root (\/mnt\/sdcard\/) of the SD card\n<ol>\n<li>ROM: <strong>CM7 nightly 255<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/download.cyanogenmod.com\/?type=nightly&amp;device=speedy\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/download.cyanogenmod.com\/?type=nightly&amp;device=speedy<\/a> or here since the link was broken <a href=\"http:\/\/ftp.sh.cvut.cz\/MIRRORS\/cyanogenmod\/nightly\/speedy\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/ftp.sh.cvut.cz\/MIRRORS\/cyanogenmod\/nightly\/speedy\/<\/a> select cm_speedy_full-255.zip)\u00a0 or <strong>CM 7.2 RC2<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/download.cyanogenmod.com\/?device=speedy&amp;type=RC\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/download.cyanogenmod.com\/?device=speedy&amp;type=RC<\/a> select update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-plusfixes-speedy-signed.zip)<\/li>\n<li>Kernel: <strong>Scary Kernel 3<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=1010934\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=1010934<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Google Apps: <strong>Gapps<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.cyanogenmod.com\/wiki\/Latest_Version#Google_Apps\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/wiki.cyanogenmod.com\/wiki\/Latest_Version#Google_Apps<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Restart the phone in recovery mode\n<ol>\n<li>Power off the phone.\u00a0 Then while holding down on the volume button press power.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select the option to Wipe data\/factory reset.<\/li>\n<li>Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.<\/li>\n<li>Select Install zip from sdcard, Choose zip from sdcard, Select nightly ROM<\/li>\n<li>Select Install zip from sdcard, Choose zip from sdcard, Select Kernel<\/li>\n<li>Select Install zip from sdcard, Choose zip from sdcard, Select Gapps<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Setting the phone backup<\/h2>\n<p>This section is widely variable.\u00a0 Here are a list of things that I have done<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>At the first startup enter in your google id and go through the other startup questions<\/li>\n<li>If you selected Partition SD Card to use it as internal memory above then go to Google store (now called Google Play) and download <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5idWFrLkxpbmsyU0QiXQ..\">Link2SD<\/a>.\u00a0 In Link2SD press Menu-&gt;Storage.\u00a0 If the SD Card 2nd Part shows that there is space then partition worked fine.\u00a0 If not then use Minitool Partition Wizard to format the ext3 partition to a different type (repeat unit Link2SD recognizes the SD Card 2nd Part)<\/li>\n<ol>\n<li>I think the partition type is dependent on the phone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<li>Titanium Backup<\/li>\n<li>Copy the Titanium Backup files to your SD Card.\n<ol>\n<li>If you did a backup to Dropbox or Google Drive then re-connect those accounts<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>In Titanium Backup\n<ol>\n<li>Select Menu-&gt;Batch-&gt;Restore missing apps + all system data\n<ol>\n<li>This will get all your programs back<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then, Menu-&gt;Market Tools-&gt;Market Doctor-&gt;User &amp;
